SONIC STATE

 The Dudley, Rhyl - 13.09.03

(reviewed by Neil Crud)

The Dudley advertise their gigs in the pub, nowhere else. Hands up who goes there for a pint when there’s no bands playing? No, I thought so.
I got wind of this gig through an email from Sonic State 2 days before the show – not really much time to advertise it on my Gig Guide & by then you lot had decided to either go & see Rancid in Manchester or stay in & make beautiful love to your hand / plastic toy etc. Which is a pity as you missed a really good show.
The few of us present showed our appreciation and in return we got a full-on performance as we did last time from Jon, Jenny, Simon & Lisa. And that Nuke ‘ em song just gets better & better with every listen. Wayne was quick to point out that the guitarist should be publicly flogged for having ‘Gimme a Fix’ daubed in red on his bare chest & we later discussed what he should have written there to bring him 25 years into the present & it was agreed that it needs to be; ‘Bjork stabbed my Mum.’
On a more serious level, Sonic State are a very very good band & the local fraternity would really warm to them if they got the chance to see them, but SS need to be adopted into the scene like Stuntface, The Hollow & Kentucky AFC have. They’re not going to do it by playing The Dudley on nights other than the Punk in Drublic bashes & the Old Hall in Penrhyn would really warm to them. So lets see Sonic State play these venues with proper local bands (not Dexadrina who didn’t show up; or X-Ell who also did a no show last time), & a bash at Bar Blu would be an excellent starting point.
See you s(w)oon
