Review by Marksgoodlove.

You can’t imagine my excitement as I boarded the tube on the northern line.  It seems everyone in London owns a vintage neds tshirt and they we’re out in force, for tonight’s event.  This is the first gig review I’ve written so please bear with me!

I’ve been waiting for 15 years to go and see Ned’s play live.  From the average age for the rest of the crowd, it seems like I’m not the only one.

Got to the venue early and managed to get right to the barrier directly in front of Alex’s bass amp.  With 15 mins to go, I desperately needed to visit the little boys room but feared for my place.  I decide to risk it and let Col hold the fort.  Whilst relieving myself it seems that a few hundred more fans arrived and it’s getting pretty crowded.  I fight my way back to the front, just in time for the theme tune from wonder woman which blares out just like the beginning to the live Ned’s VHS vid “Lunatic Magnets”, and the crowd erupts…some thing that feels like 400 pints of lager shower over the crowd and Ned’s Break in to “Aim.”  It’s pogo dancing a go-go.

That famous bass sound sends shivers down my spine as I relive my youth.  Jon Penney jumps round the stage as like he’s been swallowing springs.  Even though two members of the original band have been replaced you couldn’t tell.

At this point, I’m going to have to sing the praises of the security (Silent Security) who didn’t half have their work cut out for them.  At one point ( during kill your television ) crowd surfing was up to 25 surfers a minute.  One of them wasn’t impressed when jon knocked the mike stand over on to his head and he threw it back on stage like a spear.  It was probably a bad idea for jon to fall off the drummers platform sliding across the stage in to the monitors then clambering over the security people to mingle with the croud.  It was a great sight though.

After playing a fantastic set list from Bite, God Fodder, Are You Normal, BrainBloodVolume and a couple of new songs the Ned’s leave us with the beautiful “Titch”

We hung around for a while to drink up and to avoid the massive cloak room queue that had built up, when over my shoulder I spotted Jon.  I decide to go speak to one of my biggest idol’s and ask him if I can bother him for a photograph, he accepts and I think I do something naughty and youthful in my pants!  When Jon finally realises where the camera is, the snap is taken with Jon sporting his usual grimace.  I never realised before but Jon must be about 6’ 3.

To Next Time…

Fuck yeah.
